90000 How to Wax Your Car with Amazing Results: 7-Step Guide 90001 90002 While most people wash their vehicles every now and then, the majority of drivers do not wax their cars. Waxing your car is one of the best ways to make it look great and protects its exterior. Although waxing a car takes a little elbow grease, it is not a terrible way to spend a Saturday afternoon. You will be proud of your hard work when you see your car gleaming in your driveway. Follow these steps to wax your car to a shine.90003 90004 Tools and Materials You’ll Need 90005 90006 90007 Soap and chamois to wash your car 90008 90007 High quality automobile wax 90008 90007 Wax pad 90008 90007 Microfiber towel 90008 90007 Soft detailing brush 90008 90007 Random orbital buffer (optional) 90008 90019 90020 7 Steps for a Perfect Car Waxing 90021 90022 90007 90002 1 90003 90004 Purchase a High Quality Automobile Wax 90005 90002 There are two types of product that you can use when waxing your car: carnauba based car wax and paint sealant.Carnauba wax is made from the leaves of a Brazilian palm tree and provides a nice high quality shine. Paint sealant is a polymer based wax that provides a longer lasting shine and extra protection. You can typically find both of these types of car waxes at your local big box store or at most auto parts retailers. There are several national brands of car wax to choose from. While there is no need to splurge on car wax, it is a good idea to choose a product that is in the middle of the price range. The most popular form of car wax is packaged in a small tub, although auto wax is also available in spray and liquid form. 90003 90002 90031 There are a lot of reviews online, and a number of websites let you compare prices 90003 90008 90007 90002 2 90003 90004 Wash Your Car 90005 90002 It is best to apply car wax to a clean, dry vehicle. Either take your vehicle to a car wash or wash it yourself before applying wax. Starting with a clean car is important as any dirt and grime that is left on the surface of the car may result in the paint’s clear coat becoming scratched when applying the wax.Pay special attention to the door jambs, door handles, and the area where the side of the car transitions to the underside as these areas are often neglected. Make sure that your vehicle is completely dry before applying any wax. 90003 90008 90007 90002 3 90003 90004 Read the Instructions on the Car Wax Package 90005 90002 Depending on the brand and type of wax you are using, there could be different instructions on how to best apply the wax to your car. Make sure to read all the instructions and package inserts that may have come with the wax.Following the product’s recommended usage will ensure that the wax is applied correctly and you obtain optimal results from your effort. 90003 90008 90007 90002 4 90003 90004 Apply Wax to the Pad 90005 90002 If using automobile wax that comes in the tub format, open the package and remove the pad. Under the pad, there should be another lid. When opened, this lid should reveal the wax. If you are using a liquid paint sealant you will apply a small amount of sealand directly onto the waxing pad.For both wax paste and liquid paint sealant it is important to start with a small amount of product. As you continue to wax the vehicle, the pad will become more saturated with product so it is not necessary to use too much wax in the beginning. 90003 90008 90007 90002 5 90003 90004 Choose an Area of Your Vehicle to Begin Waxing 90005 90002 It’s best to wax your car in sections so you can remember where you applied the wax and to prevent the wax sitting on the car for too long and drying out .If you leave the wax on the car for too long it becomes hard and very difficult to remove. It will not hurt your car’s paint but it will make removing the wax very labor intensive and difficult. It’s best to start with one section of the vehicle then move on to the next. A good place to start is on the front fender panel located on both sides of the car above the front wheels and extending to the front of the vehicle. From here you would continue around the vehicle completing each section of the car until finished.90003 90008 90007 90002 6 90003 90004 Apply the Wax Using a Small, Circular Motion 90005 90002 Apply the wax using a small, circular motion. A thin layer of wax should be applied to the section of the vehicle you are working on. It is best to use either horizontal or vertical rows of circles to ensure that the entire area is covered. Try to avoid applying too much wax as it is not necessary and can actually make it more difficult to remove. A thin layer where you can still see the paint color through the wax is ideal. After you’ve applied the wax to your car, you’ll notice that within a couple minutes the wax will begin to dry. When the wax is dry, it will appear matte and feel somewhat chalky. 90003 90008 90007 90002 7 90003 90004 Remove the Wax With a Soft Cloth 90005 90002 Using a microfiber towel, chamois, or other soft cloth, remove the wax from the surface of your car. Start by applying gentle pressure to the cloth and using a circular motion to remove the majority of the wax. Once the visible wax is gone, you can buff the car using a fast circular motion to increase the shine and luster of the paint. After the wax is removed, the surface of your car should appear shiny and glossy. 90003 90008 90082 90020 Special Considerations 90021 90004 Pro Tip # 1: Wax Your Car Under Cover 90005 90002 If possible, try to wax your car under some sort of protective cover. This could be a carport, tent, or other structure that provides cover from the elements. There are two main reasons why this is important. 90003 90002 The first reason is that on a sunny day the surface of the car can become incredibly hot. When you apply wax to the hot surface of your car the wax will almost immediately become dry and caked on. This makes it incredibly difficult to remove and you will be spending much more time and effort to remove the wax than would normally be the case. 90003 90002 The second reason to wax under cover is in the event that it starts to rain. If the surface of the car is wet, the wax will not adhere to the surface properly and will create a mess. The wax will run off the surface of the car and may get on surfaces you were not intending to wax such as molding and plastic body parts. These types of material can be difficult to remove wax so it is important to wax your car under a controlled environment. 90003 90004 Pro Tip # 2: Use a Random Orbital Buffer 90005 90002 Another option for waxing your car is to use a mechanical buffer. These can save time and effort and make waxing your car a breeze. However, not all mechanical buffers are created equal. Rotary buffers are very common and people often use them to wax their car. The problem with rotary buffers is that they spin in a circular motion at high velocity. This can cause the edge of the pad to dig into the paint and cause «burn» marks which may or may not be permanent. The other issue is that rotary buffers can cause swirl marks due to their circular motion. This is due to the pad becoming dry and abrasive leading to micro scratches in the paint that look like swirl marks. 90003 90002 The best solution when using a mechanical buffer is to buy a random orbital buffer. This type of buffer moves the pad in a randomized pattern rather than circular. The result is an even application of wax without the risk of burning the paint or creating swirl marks. Both the rotary and random orbital buffers are similarly priced. If you are looking for a mechanical buffer then opt for the random orbital buffer. 90003 90004 Pro Tip # 3: Use a Soft Brush for Gaps and Molding 90005 90002 No matter how hard you try to keep wax off of molding and out of cracks it’s almost inevitable that this will occur. That’s why it is a good idea to keep a soft brush handy while you are waxing your car. The brushes can be purchased at most auto parts stores and only cost a couple of dollars.Removing wax from a car’s molding after it has dried can be difficult and sometimes the wax will leave permanent staining. Wax left in the cracks and crevices between body panels will harden and become very noticeable once dry. To avoid both of these situations, use a soft brush to remove any wax from moldings or cracks and crevices before it dries. 90003 90002 Waxing your vehicle is a great way to ensure that it stays shiny and looking great. Waxing will work to protect your car’s paint from damaging sun rays, abrasive dirt, and chemicals in the rain and snow.Properly maintaining your car’s paint by regularly waxing can extend the life of your car’s paint and help keep your car looking good long into the future. Using the tips in this article, you’ll be able to wax your car like a pro and feel proud of your hard work when you drive around in your glossy car. 90003.90000 How Do Self-Driving Cars Work? 90001
90002 Where are all the self-driving cars at? That’s what you’re probably saying to yourself after many large tech and automotive companies forecasted that by next year, in 2020 року, fully autonomous tech would be rolled out in many automobile fleets. 90003
90002 While that «deadline» looks like it will not be being met, self-driving and autonomous technologies have made significant strides in the last several years. Just recently, an autonomous semi-truck completed a trip across the U.S. with no issue. 90003
90002 Tesla’s autopilot system has by far been the highlight of self-driving tech, and it has been in the spotlight since the beginning. Tesla has the first-mover advantage, having reinvented how an automobile company is structured and functions. In the last year, Tesla’s autopilot system has clocked over 90007 2 billion miles 90008 of use. 90003
90002 That’s a significant amount of miles, with very few accidents, compared to human drivers. 90003
90002 With the technology still advancing, perhaps still in its infancy, what is self-driving technology, and how do cars equipped with it work? 90003
90014 What are self-driving cars? 90015
90002 The terms self-driving and autonomous are used fairly interchangeably, and they essentially are.Autonomous is more general, whereas self-driving only relates to vehicles. In the case of cars though, those technicalities do not matter. 90003
90002 Self-driving cars rely on hardware and software to drive down the road without user input. The hardware collects the data; the software organizes and compiles it. On the software side, the input data will normally be processed through machine learning algorithms or complex lines of code that have been trained in real-world scenarios. It’s this machine learning technology that is at the center of self-driving technology.90003
90002 As more and more data is processed through autonomous self-driving algorithms, they only get better and better-smarter and smarter. Machine learning algorithms can essentially teach themselves how to function, assuming they’ve been given the right constraints and goals. 90003
90002 90023 90024 90003
90014 Autonomous vehicle levels 90015
90002 When we think of autonomous or self-driving vehicles, we probably think of a car or semi that can drive itself completely without a human. While this is autonomous, it does not tell the whole story. That «fully autonomous» scenario represents a level 90007 5 autonomous 90008 vehicle, levels 90007 0 through 5 90008 represent the full spectrum of driving, from fully human, 90007 to 5 90008, fully computer. 90003
90002 Take a look at the helpful infographic below to visualize these 90007 5 different 90008 levels of automation. 90003
90040 Source: The Simple Dollar 90041
90002 To explain each detail in more concrete text, we’ve laid them all out below.90003
90002 90007 Level 0: 90008 The driver completely controls the vehicle at all times. 90003
90002 90007 Level 1: 90008 Individual vehicle controls are automated, such as electronic stability control or automatic braking. 90003
90002 90007 Level 2 90008: At least two controls can be automated in unison, such as adaptive cruise control in combination with lane-keeping. 90003
90002 90007 Level 3: 90008 90007 75% automation 90008. The driver can fully cede control of all safety-critical functions in certain conditions. The car senses when conditions require the driver to retake control and provides a «sufficiently comfortable transition time» for the driver to do so. 90003
90002 90007 Level 4: 90008 The vehicle performs all safety-critical functions for the entire trip, with the driver not expected to control the vehicle at any time. 90003
90002 90007 Level 5: 90008 The vehicle includes humans only as passengers, no human interaction is needed or possible. 90003

90014 What technologies are inside self-driving cars? 90015
90002 Self-driving cars include a significant amount of technology in them. The hardware inside these cars has stayed fairly consistent, but the software behind the cars is constantly changing and being updated. Looking at some of the primary technologies, we have: 90003
90014 Cameras 90015
90002 Elon Musk has famously claimed that cameras are the only sensor technology needed for self-driving cars, we just need the algorithms to be able to fully comprehend the images they receive. Camera images capture everything needed for a car to drive, it’s just that we’re still developing new ways for computers to process the visual data and translate it into 3D actionable data.90003
90002 Teslas have 90007 8 external-facing 90008 cameras to help them understand the world around them. 90003
90014 Radar 90015
90002 Radar is one of the primary means that self-driving cars utilize to «see» along with LiDar, and computer imagery and cameras. Radar is the lowest resolution of the three, but it can see through adverse weather conditions, unlike LiDAR, which is light-based. Radar, on the other hand, is radio wave-based, meaning that it can propagate through things like rain or snow.90003
90014 LiDAR 90015
90002 LiDAR sensors are what you’ll see on top of self-driving cars spinning around. These sensors shoot out light and use the feedback to generate a highly-detailed 3D map of its surrounding area. 90003
90002 LiDAR is very high resolution, compared to RADAR, but as we mentioned above, it has limitations in low-visibility weather due to it being light-based. 90003
90014 Other sensors 90015
90002 Self-driving cars will also utilize traditional GPS tracking, along with ultrasonic sensors and inertial sensors to gain a full picture of what the car is doing as well as what’s occurring around it.In the realm of machine learning and self-driving technology, the more data collected, the better. 90003
90014 Computer Power 90015
90002 All self-driving cars, and essentially all modern cars, require a computer on-board to process everything happening with the vehicle in real-time. 90003
90002 Self-driving cars require extreme processing power, so rather than traditional CPUs, they utilize graphical processing units, or GPUs, to do their calculation. However, even the best GPUs have started to prove insufficient for the needs of the extreme data processing seen in self-driving vehicles, so Tesla has introduced a neural network accelerator chip, or NNA.These NNAs have extreme processing power in real-time, capable of handling real-time image processing. 90003
90002 For a perspective between CPUs, GPUs, and NNAs, this is how many giga operations per second they can handle, or GOPS: 90003
90109 90040 90007 CPU: 90008 1.5 90041 90114
90109 90040 90007 GPU: 90008 17 90041 90114
90109 90040 90007 NNA: 90008 2100 90041 90114
90002 NNAs are the clear winner, by many many times. 90003
90014 The future of autonomous and self-driving vehicles 90015
90002 Roughly 90007 93% 90008 of all car accidents are due to human error. While much of society is resistant to the idea of self-driving cars, the simple fact of the matter is that they’re already safer than human drivers. Self-driving vehicles, when fully tested and built out, have the potential to revolutionize our travel infrastructure. 90003
90002 It will still be some time before we see level 90007 5 autonomy 90008 implemented in cars on the road, but for now, 90007 level 2 90008 is reaching commonplace in modern automobiles. The next levels will be upon us soon.90003

.90000 8 Easy Ways to Remove Dents Yourself Without Ruining the Paint «Auto Maintenance & Repairs :: WonderHowTo 90001
90002 Only three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and getting a dent in your car or truck. Even if you’re as careful as possible, you can not always account for runaway shopping carts, wrongly thrown footballs, out-of-nowhere light posts, and other real-life annoyances. 90003 90002 However you got your dent or ding, the next thing on your mind is, undoubtedly, how to get it out.Sure, you can take it to a body shop or friendly neighborhood mechanic for repair, but their price quotes can be unbelievable, especially if they want to remove the paint first or use body filler. $ 200 for that tiny dent ?! I do not think so. 90003 90002 Instead, save yourself some of that hard-earned money and do it yourself. There are plenty of ways to get a small dent or ding out of a vehicle at home without ruining your paint, and you do not need to be a gearhead to do it. 90003 90002 However, not all of these tricks will work on your particular automobile; your mileage may vary depending on where the dent is and what your body panel, hood, or bumper is made of (aluminum, carbon fiber, plastic, fiberglass, steel, etc.). For instance, aluminum has little memory properties, so paintless dent removal is much more difficult. 90003
90010 Method 1: Use a Plunger 90011 90002 Not only can you unclog a drain with a plunger, but you can also get out small- to medium-sized dents out of your car too. Just splash some water on both the plunger and the dent and start pushing and pulling until it pops out. Make sure to use a cup plunger (for sinks), not a flange one (for toilets). 90003 90014 90015
90010 Method 2: Use Boiling Water 90011 90002 Reversing into an object is one of the easiest ways to get a dent.So for plastic bumpers, even if you attempt to take off the bumper, it might still be difficult to push out the dent because of how stiff the plastic is. Solve this issue by boiling some water in a pot and throwing it on the dent. 90003 90020 90002 As soon as you’ve poured the water, reach behind the bumper and try to pop the dent back in. Thanks to the heat of the water, the plastic should be a bit more flexible, making it easier to put back into place. 90003 90023 90002 Since the heat will not last very long, you’ll have to work quickly. If the dent does not completely go out, keep dumping boiling water on it until you’ve popped it all the way back out. 90003
90010 Method 3: Use a Hair Dryer & Compressed Air 90011 90002 Another popular method for removing car dents out of plastic material involves using two popular household products: a hair dryer and compressed air. 90003 90002 Start off by heating the car dent with the hair dryer at its highest temperature, which will expand the plastic of the car. As soon as it’s hot enough, grab the can of compressed air, turn it upside down, and begin spraying that same area.Since the cold air will cause the plastic to contract, the dent will pop out. 90003 90032 90033 (1) A heat gun, hair dyer, or lighter will work. (2) Then just use canned air. 90034 Images by Yagelski / YouTube 90035
90010 Method 4: Use Dry Ice 90011 90002 Primarily used as a cooling agent, dry ice can be used to get out small dents from your car. As long as you’re wearing protective gloves, hold down a piece of dry ice on the dent and rub it around until you hear your dent pop back into place.90003 90002 90041 90042 90003
90002 Apply the dry ice as many times as you need to, but it should pop out eventually if the dent is not too deep. You can also try heating up the dent first, with something like a hair dryer (similar to the hairdryer and compressed air tip above), and then apply the dry ice to it. 90003
90010 Method 5: Use a Vacuum Cleaner & Pot 90011 90002 Suction is one way to get out a dent, but the problem is finding a dent puller with the right amount of power.Well, why not just create your own? All you need is a pot (or bucket), a vacuum cleaner and some tape and you can get that dent out of your car in no time. 90003 90050 90002 Simply make a small hole underneath the pot, tape the pot around the dent, place the vacuum cleaner hose over the hole under the pot, and turn on your vacuum. If the dent is not too shallow, the suction created should pop out your dent. 90003 90053
90010 Method 6: Use Hot Glue, Wooden Dowels, & Screws 90011 90002 When you attempt to take out dents yourself, you always put the risk that you might further damage your car, whether you make the dent worse or chip the paint.A safe way of trying to take out big dents on your car is by using several wooden dowels, a few screws, and a hot glue gun. 90003 90002 Simply place two nails into each side of the dowel and put the hot glue on the bottom. Place the dowels glue-side down in areas around the dent, repeat as many times as needed to cover the area, let them dry, and pull each one out until the dent is gone. 90003 90060 90061 90002 Place and pull the same dowels in several different places across the dent until most of it comes out.If you’re going to try this method, make sure that you have enough glue and some patience. Use rubbing alcohol or heat to detach the glue from the car. 90003
90010 Method 7: Use a Long Metal Rod & Knockdown 90011 90002 When a dent happens on your car, the metal not only goes inward, the surrounding edges of the dent also go upward, creating something like a small volcano. That means that popping the dent out from underneath is not the way to go. 90003 90068 90002 George Gjokaj, a master Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) technician, fixes dents by going to work on both sides of the dent.By using a combination of a long metal rod underneath it and a knockdown or tap down tool (wooden or rubber) on the top side, he can completely get the dent out of the car. And boy, does it work. 90003 90071
90010 Method 8: Use a Specialty Tool 90011 90002 If you’re not having any success with any of the above methods, you could also try a Pops-a-Dent, or a suction cup dent remover tool. 90003 90076
90010 Which Way Worked Best for You? 90011 90002 If you’re willing to try anything and do not have a ton of tools at home, grab a dent removal kit, which contains tools specially created to remove car dents using many of the methods detailed above.90003 90002 Did you give any of these methods a try, or did you end up biting the bullet and hiring an auto body shop to do the work for you? If you used a different DIY method for removing dents and dings from your vehicle, make sure to let us know below! 90003
